Did you ever set a goal, became really excited about it, and then got discouraged because nothing was happening? Well then you’re in the majority. The minority of people who actually reach their goals know how to play the waiting game. When we set a goal we become so focused on the finish line ( the actual point of meeting the goal) that we become less focused during the process. How can we expect to reach our goal if we’re not giving all our energy and attention to the things we need to do in order to reach the goal?
Typically what happens is we set our goal and then instead of getting up every day and focusing on the progress we’ve made, we look at how far we have to go. This is a sure way to drain all your energy and motivation. While you need to have a vision of where you want to go, you must let go of the outcome. Letting go of the outcome doesn’t mean you don’t care what happens, it just means you’re putting everything into the present moment and trusting that the future moments will work out. Almost always, the plans we make never go as planned. This is why we have to focus on the present. If we focus on the outcome, when things don’t go as planned, we get frustrated and are tempted to give up. It feels like such a setback. Staying in the present keeps you from falling into that trap. Every person who has attempted to reach a goal, has experienced setbacks. It happens to everyone. The key is not to become discouraged and give up. We can create a mindset that helps move us forward or one that keeps us stuck. It’s our choice.
So, set your goal. Create your vision of what it looks like and how it feels to reach that goal. Then let it go. Focus your attention on what needs to be done next. What do you need to do now that will bring you one step closer to your goal?
